Schools Closed in Bagh, AJK Amid High Flood Alert

In a precautionary move, authorities in Bagh, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) have announced the temporary closure of all public and private schools following a high flood alert issued by the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

According to the official notification, schools will remain shut on August 18 and 19 to ensure the safety of students and staff as heavy rainfall is expected in the region.

The Met Office has predicted intense rainfall and thunderstorms in multiple districts, including Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, Mirpur, and Bhimber, raising concerns over flash floods and landslides in hilly areas.

Officials confirmed that this step was taken as part of emergency safety measures while the region braces for the ongoing monsoon spell.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has also issued a rainfall warning for Islamabad, forecasting heavy to very heavy showers in the next 24 hours. Morning temperatures recorded were: 26°C in Islamabad, 28°C in Lahore and Peshawar, 29°C in Karachi, 21°C in Quetta and Gilgit, 17°C in Murree, and 23°C in Muzaffarabad.

On the other hand, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) is also expected to witness cloudy weather, rain, wind, and thunderstorms in Srinagar, Jammu, Leh, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, and Baramula, with temperatures ranging from 10°C in Leh to 26°C in Jammu.
