Queen Camilla Celebrates ShelterBox’s 25th Anniversary, Praises Charity’s Global Impact

Cornwall, UK – September 2025: Queen Camilla visited the headquarters of ShelterBox, a Cornwall-based disaster relief charity, to celebrate its 25th anniversary, commending the organization for its tireless global efforts. The Queen praised the charity’s ongoing mission, saying, “Unfortunately, you’re going to be needed more and more.”

Her Majesty was first introduced to ShelterBox during a 2006 visit to Pakistan following a devastating earthquake. Recalling her first encounter, she shared:
“I saw these good-looking Cornishmen after the earthquake with a mule and a box on top, and I couldn’t believe my eyes.”

Since becoming ShelterBox’s president in 2007 and patron in 2021, Queen Camilla has remained actively involved with the organization, which has supported over 3 million people in nearly 100 countries since its founding in 2000 by the Rotary Club of Helston-Lizard.

During her tour of the Truro headquarters, Queen Camilla explored shelter kits, aid items, and emergency supplies designed for disaster-stricken areas. She also met Thomas, a 13-year-old fundraiser, who raised more than £2,000 by selling clay snails to support families in Ukraine.

ShelterBox Book Club members, who have collectively raised over £1.5 million for the charity’s work, were also present to celebrate the milestone.

In addition to her ShelterBox visit, the Queen formally named a new air ambulance purchased for Cornwall Air Ambulance’s fleet after a £2.85 million fundraising appeal. She also visited several community projects supported by the Cornwall Community Foundation, which has distributed over £22 million in grants to local initiatives.
