Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) continues to grapple with internal conflicts as its leadership remains divided over contesting upcoming by-elections following the disqualification of several party lawmakers. The political committee initially decided to participate in the polls, but this decision sparked strong opposition from PTI founder Imran Khan’s sisters, who viewed it as a betrayal of his stance.
When presented with the decision, Imran Khan sent it back for further discussion, directing the political committee to hold another round of deliberations. The chaos intensified after PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja’s unexpected resignation, though Khan reportedly urged him to continue his duties.
Despite these internal challenges, Khan remains determined to nominate Mahmood Achakzai, head of the Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party, as the opposition leader in the National Assembly. This choice has raised concerns within the party due to Achakzai’s historically confrontational stance toward powerful quarters.
Amid deepening divisions and multiple factions claiming to represent Khan, analysts suggest that PTI’s political future hinges on Khan’s leadership strategy and his willingness to adapt. While some urge him to reconsider and reach a political settlement, Khan appears determined to hold his ground despite the party’s ongoing struggles.
