Petrol Prices Unchanged, Diesel Price Reduced by Rs3 Per Litre: Govt Announces Fuel Price Update for September 2025

The Finance Division of Pakistan announced on Sunday night that petrol prices will remain unchanged, while the high-speed diesel (HSD) price has been slashed by Rs3 per litre for the next fortnight. According to the latest notification, HSD will now cost Rs269.99 per litre, whereas petrol will continue to be sold at Rs264.61 per litre.

Petrol, widely used in motorcycles, rickshaws, private cars, and small vehicles, directly affects middle- and lower-middle-income households. Diesel, on the other hand, powers heavy transport vehicles, trains, buses, and agricultural machinery, meaning its price reduction could help ease transportation costs and control inflation on essential goods like vegetables and daily-use items.

The notification further revealed that the price of superior kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs1.46 per litre, while light diesel oil has been slashed by Rs2.40 per litre. The new prices are effective from September 1, 2025, in line with recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and relevant ministries.

Earlier this week, the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) approved a financial bailout for Pakistan Television (PTV), a Rs47 billion recovery plan for petroleum levy dues from Cynergico Refinery, and a decision to use the captive levy on gas to provide relief in electricity bills for consumers.

This is the second consecutive fortnight where the government has maintained petrol prices while providing relief on diesel, kerosene, and light diesel oil. On August 16, 2025, HSD was reduced by Rs12.84 per litre, while petrol prices remained unchanged.
