KP in Political Chaos: CM Ali Amin Gandapur Resigns but Governor Yet to Accept — Power Vacuum Deepens in Peshawar!

“Ali Amin Gandapur resigns as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister, governor yet to approve resignation — political uncertainty grips Peshawar and PTI leadership.”

PESHAWAR: The political landscape of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) remains uncertain as Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur’s resignation, tendered 48 hours ago, is yet to be officially accepted by the Governor of KP, Faisal Karim Kundi.

According to official sources, Gandapur left Peshawar for his hometown Dera Ismail Khan, saying farewell to his staff at the Chief Minister’s House before departing. His decision came despite no formal notification of resignation acceptance from the Governor’s Office.

In his first media appearance after stepping down, Gandapur reiterated his call for the swift acceptance of his resignation, stressing that any delay could harm the province’s governance and stability. He stated that his political journey was never about power but public service, highlighting that “the trust of my people is my greatest strength.”

Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, currently in Islamabad, has not yet reviewed the resignation letter. His staff confirmed to Dawn News that the governor may return to Peshawar by Saturday, after which the decision could be finalized.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders have stated that the process for electing a new chief minister will begin immediately after the governor’s approval. PTI sources revealed that Sohail Afridi has been nominated as the next CM candidate and will finalize his cabinet after consulting PTI founder Imran Khan.

Constitutionally, under Article 130(8) of the Constitution of Pakistan, the chief minister may resign by submitting a written letter to the governor. However, under Article 133, the governor holds the power to request the outgoing CM to continue duties until a successor takes office.

Ali Amin Gandapur was warmly received in Dera Ismail Khan, where supporters showered his convoy with rose petals at Yarak Interchange. His loyalists expressed full confidence in his leadership, emphasizing his continued influence in the province’s politics.
