Over Half of Canadian Workers Struggle with Payroll Delays, New Survey Reveals

More than 51% of working Canadians say they would struggle to pay their bills if their paycheque was delayed, according to a new survey released by Employment Hero. The study, which gathered insights from over 1,000 Canadian employees, highlights the growing financial strain many workers face due to payroll errors and delays.

The survey reveals that 38% of Canadians have experienced a payroll inaccuracy or delay in the last five years—equating to nearly 7.8 million workers. Among them, 62% reported repeated issues with multiple paycheques. These findings indicate a pressing need for employers to adopt more reliable payroll systems.

Kevin Kliman, President of Canadian Business at Employment Hero, emphasized the seriousness of the issue:

“When people don’t get paid properly or on time, it’s not just a payroll error – it’s a broken promise. In today’s economy, where every dollar counts, Canadians can’t afford to be left hanging because of outdated, unreliable systems.”

The poll further revealed that 74% of employees would feel negatively toward their employer if they experienced a delayed payment, while only 55% said they would report overpayments. These statistics highlight the growing mistrust caused by payroll inefficiencies.

To address this issue, Employment Hero has launched the Employment Operating System (Employment OS) — Canada’s first integrated employment platform. It combines payroll, recruitment, onboarding, benefits, and HR services, designed to ensure accurate and timely payments for Canadian businesses.
