Strengthening Pakistan-Azerbaijan Military Cooperation & Regional Peace Initiatives

In a significant diplomatic and military development, Azerbaijan’s First Deputy Minister of Defence and Chief of the General Staff, Colonel General Karim Valiyev, has awarded the prestigious ā€˜Patriotic War Medal’ to Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. The award, conferred on behalf of President Ilham Aliyev, recognises the COAS’s remarkable contributions to enhancing Pakistan-Azerbaijan bilateral military relations and fostering regional peace.

The award ceremony took place during General Valiyev’s visit to General Headquarters (GHQ), Rawalpindi, where he held high-level discussions with COAS Munir. The talks focused on mutual defence cooperation, the global and regional security environment, and ways to further consolidate ties between the two brotherly nations.

COAS Asim Munir reaffirmed Pakistan’s deep fraternal bonds with Azerbaijan and expressed his commitment to advancing joint military initiatives. He congratulated Azerbaijan on the successful peace agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia, marking a historic step toward regional stability.

Colonel General Valiyev praised the professionalism of the Pakistan Armed Forces, particularly their success during Marka-e-Haq, the period of heightened conflict with India between April 22 and May 10, concluding with Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos.

The visiting delegation also extended warm wishes for Pakistan’s Independence Day and victory celebrations. In return, Field Marshal Munir expressed gratitude to Azerbaijan’s leadership and people for their unwavering support during Marka-e-Haq, including the participation of an Azeri contingent in the Independence Day parade.

Both sides pledged to strengthen defence cooperation, promote regional security, and advance joint strategic goals for peace and stability.
